Sea Glass & Sea Urchin Shells
Lately I have been really obsessed with Sea Urchin shells. We see lots of Sea Urchins living on the reefs, while snorkeling... but if you go early in the morning, when the tide is out you can find lots of empty shells. Usually if you find several in one tide pool... some are broken. If I am lucky I will find a chach of shells along with some white or purple brown, Sea Urchin splines, and sometimes the tiny white Sea Urchin pearls laying in the sand of the tide pool next to the shells. I have spent hours digging through these tide pools searching for treasure. Last week while walking on the rocks digging in tide pools, we came upon on a gray Hawaiian Monk Seal. The only two other people on the beach said is was a bull. He had wedged his big body between the gray blue rocks and was sleeping. I just stood there watching him marveling on his beautiful coat, but he didn't seem to like that I was behind him, he kept eyeing me over his shoulder, so as he moved to face the ocean I went back to searching for more Sea Urchin shells.
